Crimson Bloom is an original 3D floral painting by Edelgard Schroer, combining expressive painting with sculptural elements to create an artwork with remarkable depth and presence.
Three narrow linen-covered canvases are mounted directly onto the main painting, forming a raised composition within the artwork. Bold abstract flowers in burnt orange, rust, crimson and deep brown extend across these individual panels, while a single flower emerges separately at the edge of the composition. This unusual arrangement gives the painting an architectural, almost sculptural character.
I deliberately left areas of the natural linen visible. Its warm, organic texture creates a beautiful contrast with the richly painted flowers and the softly layered neutral background. Strong black stems add graphic definition, while touches of white and golden ochre bring light and movement into the blossoms.
The different levels create subtle shadows that change depending on the direction of the light and the viewer’s position. From a distance, Crimson Bloom has a strong, balanced presence; viewed more closely, the linen texture, expressive brushwork and three-dimensional construction reveal themselves in greater detail.
