Jeff Cain Wildlife Artist

Jeff Cain is a British professional wildlife artist based in London, UK. His work is dedicated to capturing the beauty, power, and character of wildlife through highly detailed and scientifically accurate oil paintings.

While Jeff paints a diverse range of species from around the world, his artwork depicting the wolverine has become particularly recognised within wildlife biology and conservation circles. His paintings have been published in scientific literature, nature journals, conference promotions, wildlife symposiums, and educational publications.

Jeff has completed private commissions for collectors in the UK and internationally and has exhibited his work in galleries across the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

His passion for wildlife extends beyond the studio. Over a two-year period, Jeff volunteered as a field assistant in the wilderness of Alaska, studying wild grizzly bears, black bears, lynx, moose, and wolverines. He also worked as a wildlife film researcher for GULO Film Productions on a six-part National Geographic documentary series featuring North American wildlife, contributing to episodes filmed in Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and Arctic Alaska.

Jeff has travelled extensively throughout Scandinavia, observing large carnivores from remote photographic hides deep within the Taiga forests. These firsthand experiences with wildlife and wilderness continue to inspire much of his artistic work.

Originally working in acrylics, Jeff now specialises in oils, drawn to their richness, depth, and colour vibrancy. His paintings are created on carefully prepared smooth wood panels, allowing the level of precision and detail for which his work is known. He uses professional-quality oil paints, including Winsor & Newton and Blue Ridge pigments.

A new series of paintings combines Jeff's fascination with the animal kingdom and his deep interest in London's history and architecture. These works place exotic mammals and birds within iconic London settings, creating powerful and thought-provoking visual narratives. An example of this concept is "Power at the Gates of Lincoln's Inn", featuring a white rhinoceros and an Indian elephant walking past Lincoln's Inn Fields.

Jeff is currently working on a portrait of a black rhinoceros bull and continues to produce new original oil paintings on a regular basis. He is also available for private commissions.
