Afterglow Field is an original abstract floral painting by Edelgard Schroer, filled with glowing colour, movement and the warmth of a garden illuminated by the last light of day.
Deep red, crimson, orange, pink and violet flow across the canvas in broad, expressive passages, creating a luminous background reminiscent of a dramatic sunset. Against this intense field of colour, loosely painted flowers in white, soft pink and fresh green seem to float across the composition.
I created the painting with a combination of fluid layers, visible brushwork, delicate drips and spontaneous marks. The flowers are intentionally expressive rather than precisely defined, allowing them to move between abstraction and nature. Areas of transparency and softly blended colour give the background depth, while the lighter blossoms bring freshness and contrast.
The panoramic format of Afterglow Field makes it particularly striking above a sofa, sideboard or bed. Framed in a slim white floater frame, the painting has a clean contemporary finish that beautifully balances its vibrant palette.
