Bloom of Noir is an original contemporary floral painting with a dramatic, sophisticated character, combining sculptural flower forms with a restrained palette of black, charcoal, silver and subtle warm accents.
The flowers emerge boldly from the shimmering silver-toned background. Their dark petals are shaped with expressive, dimensional brushwork, while delicate highlights trace their edges and reveal the movement of the paint. A contrasting black panel along the left side adds graphic structure and balances the organic forms of the blossoms.
I deliberately reduced the palette to allow texture, shape and contrast to become the focus. Instead of relying on traditional floral colours, Bloom of Noir explores the beauty of flowers through darkness, metallic light and tactile surfaces. Depending on the surrounding light, the silver tones and raised details create changing reflections and reveal new aspects of the painting.
For me, the work combines strength and delicacy. The blossoms are unmistakably floral, yet their almost sculptural appearance gives them a mysterious, contemporary quality.
With its compact 40 × 40 cm square format and deep 4 cm canvas, Bloom of Noir makes a distinctive statement on its own and is also ideal for combining with other contemporary artworks.
